Congratulations to the girls tennis team - now - 2-0 on their resounding triumph over Uniondale. The team was led by Jen Liantonio in first singles and Lea Cohen and Rachel Rende in first doubles.
The Sewanhaka Central High School District girls swim team started their season off by competing in the Nassau County high school relay carnival. It was an exciting meet with some 16 teams represented. Of the 11 relays events scheduled, our girls swim team placed first in five and second place in two of the relays. Congratulations to Erica Gerlach, Alison Rios, Jackie Gerlach, Maria Miglino, Kristina Amerigo, Jessica Kolackovsky, Brittany Boehm and Jazmine Jones from H. Frank Carey High School for winning the 200 medley relay, the 200-yard butterfly relay, and the 200-yard backstroke relay and second in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Lady Seahawks tennis team started the season with an impressive victory over Roosevelt. Great comebacks were played by Joanna Sesack in second singles and Winnie Chan and Lauren David in second doubles.
Up 2-0 at half-time, the Elmont soccer team looked to hold onto a comfortable lead and secure district soccer bragging rights. However, the Carey boys varsity soccer team regrouped and rallied to score four second-half goals to emerge victorious over an awe-stricken Elmont. Dom Cervoni scored early in the second half, and Brian Truglio provided the equalizer 10 minutes later. Elmont retaliated with a late goal, once again reclaiming the lead. But only four minutes later, Mike "Sweet-Stuff" Scortino, rocketed a rebounded shot past a stunned Elmont keeper, keeping Carey in the game. The winning goal came from Brian Truglio, who scored his fifth goal of the season off a perfectly placed pass from Jason Dakis. The team remains undefeated with two wins and one tie.
The Lady Seahawks girls tennis team defeated a strong Westbury team. The girls were led by Joanna Sesack's three set victory. The team is now 5-0.
Congratulations to Jennifer Liantonio for advancing to the second round in the Nassau County Individual Tennis Tournament. She is the first Carey representative to advance.
The boys and girls junior high cross country team recently turned in a great performance. The girls team placed first overall with Lauren Vega leading the way with a time of 7:21. She was followed by Liz Smith, Katherine Chala, Janine Tylultki and Karin Thorsen. Mike McCroary and Dan Spitaliere put in a great performance for the boys team.
The Carey Varsity boys soccer team defeated Glen Cove by a score of 4-1. Carey controlled the game very early as Brian Truglio scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of assists from Dom Cervoni and Greg Profeta. Dom Cervoni tacked on two more goals securing the lead. Bobby Karounos and Matt Sangirardi were outstanding in the backfield limiting Glen Cove to eight shots on goal.
Congratulations once again to the Lady Seahawks tennis team. The girls defeated Sewanhaka 7-0 to increase their record to 3-0. The girls were led by Tracy Romano and Carol Lau.
The Lady Seahawks JV Women's soccer team had their second victory of the season against Malverne. Their record is two wins and one loss. The final score was 4 to 1. Two goals were scored by Angela Russo. Rosemarie Manzo and Cassie Lynch also scored. Phenomenal defense was played by Cristina Morales, Alanna Marchesi and goalie Pat Karellas.
The Carey girls JV volleyball team had their first win against Bethpage. The girls really stepped it up in this come-from-behind victory. Clutch serving by Kate Milack and Jen Daddino fueled the fire. Nicole Terito and Kristan Tetmeyer also added a spark. Welcome back Shannon.
The Carey girls varsity soccer team defeated Oyster Bay. The team was led by rocket Lombardi who had four goals, one of which came from a beautiful chip she headed in from a ball played by Megan Karcher off a free kick. Allyson Parla, Alaina Intagliata and Antonella Cervoni also scored goals.
The Carey girls cross country team led by Liz Eymold beat Great Neck South while losing to Herricks. Other scorers were Melissa Yanek, Shannon Magone, Maria Rewiako and Jen O'Driscoll.
The boys cross country team led by Kevin Mille beat Herricks while losing to Great Neck South. Other scorers for Carey were Rob Cangialosi, Tim Dand, Matt DiCamillo and Bryan Gardner.
The Carey JV women's soccer team had their first game against Mepham. The whole team worked very hard and walked away with a 7-0, kicking off their season to a fantastic start! Carey's goal was scored by eighth grader Angela Russo. Goal keeper Pat Karellas played an amazing game in goal saving every shot and completely shutting out the other team. Coach Nicole Perperis is extremely proud of her team and knows that this win is the first of many more to come.
