American Ref-Fuel Plant Manager Bill Wareham joined the Franklin Square Raiders in celebrating its first place victory in the 11th Annual American Ref-Fuel East Meadow Soccer Tournament, which drew some 400 teams from as far away as Connecticut and upstate New York.

Shown left to right are; (back row) Bill Wareham, Coaches Mike Matura and Lola Intagliata (center row) Michael Sands, Sal Intagliata, Ray Fitzpatrick, Travis Marmara (front) Juan Zambrano, Kevin Jones, Ryan Stropkay, Brad Sheridan, Chris Matura and Andrew Vega.

More than 6,000 boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 18 participated this year, the largest number the tournament has ever attracted. During the three day event, the teams were cheered on by 25,000 spectators.

As part of its strong commitment to the Long Island Community, American Ref-Fuel has been the major corporate sponsor of the event for the past 10 years.

In operation since 1989, American Ref-Fuel processes all of the non-recycled household and commercial waste generated within the Towns of Hempstead and Brookhaven, producing enough electricity to power 65,000 homes and conserve 53 million gallons of oil each year.
