The Department of Transportation has begun its resurfacing project on Route 24 from Front Street to No. Franklin Avenue. Night time resurfacing will be done on Sunday through Thursday and will continue to the end of fall.
Motorists are alerted that one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction at night during the hours of 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. At night, resurfacing will take place on the outer two lanes while travel is allowed on the center two lanes. The existing surface will be removed, so motorists should expect a rough road surface at times when the resurfacing is progressing. Traffic will then be shifted to the outer two lanes while the two center lanes are being resurfaced. This work is being done at night to reduce disturbances to local businesses and minimize the impact of motorists.
The project also includes upgrading and/or replacing traffic signals and traffic control signs, drainage improvements, intersection improvements, installing handicap access ramps and sidewalks and landscaping. All work on this project is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2000.
