In response to Robert McMillan's "New York's Newest Resident?" comments (7/23/99), it is obvious that Hillary Rodham Clinton's in your face campaign can only backfire.

Her hop-scotch visits as "First Lady" to strategically targeted areas of the State allow her privileges and free publicity accorded to her position. However, to listen well, she needs a good hearing aid to hear the groans of most New Yorkers at her "will she or won't she" "carpetbagging" intentions to run for the Senate.

Long Islanders are not boobs. And with the exception of vested interests who can profit from her "maybe race" reject her wanting qualifications and baggage of a corrupt administration of which she is a strident and significant part. Too bad our local Democratic Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy by her loyal support to her party, its agenda and Hillary Clinton has lost a lot of her shine.
