The American Scholastic Press Association (ASPA) recently honored the Sewanhaka High School Chieftain newspaper. The Chieftain won first place nationally, scoring 910 points out of a possible 1,000 points. In addition, Janice Hansen received a first-place award for her editorial on Dr. Jack Kevorkian, placing her first nationally in the category of student reporting.
Over the years, the Sewanhaka Chieftain has been accorded first place honors by the ASPA. Advisor Alison Leighton and Assistant Advisor Marie Meaney attribute much of the success to the students involved. This year's dedicated staff included Editor-in-Chiefs Katie Daly and Janice Hansen and Assistant Editors Jessica Pawlowski and Ritesh Ramdhani.
