The Carey JV Girls Softball defeated West Hempstead yesterday 13-5. With solid hits from Betsy Baker, Monica and Maria Rewiako and Theresa Fortunato, the girls were able to win. Heather Resetar had nine strikeouts.
The Carey boys JV lacrosse team won their game against West Hempstead by a score of 6 to 3. The offense was led by Aditya Ganapathiraju who had three goals and two assists along with Matt Baccarella who also scored three goals and one assist. Chris Svoboda and Kenny Costello also added to the offense each having an assist.
The Carey boys varsity lacrosse team defeated West Hempstead by a scored of 9-5. Jason Shaw led the scoring with two goals and three assists and Adam Svoboda scored three goals for the Seahawks.
The Carey Volleyball team came back from two games to nond deficit to beat Syosset in five games. The team was led by the all around play of Bryan Baebler, the blocking of DJ Hardial and the leadership of Steve Margaroli, Robert Reynolds, Lorenzo Melecio and Rudy Moontenoro excelled.
The Varsity Baseball team overcame a 7-3 deficit, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to defeat Hewlett 10-7. Matt Baker went the distance for his 3rd win, striking out 11 while Mike Bongiorno's 4 RBIs and big doubles by Gary Novello and John Neenan led the Seahawk comeback.
The JV girls softball defeated Carle Place facing a 23-12 deficit. The girls came back hard, hitting the ball to beat Carle Place 24-23 in the last inning. Incredible hitting by Erin Brodley, Cynthia Schemmer, Maria Rewiako, Kristina Lo Castro, Kristan Tetmeyer, Theresa Fortunato help drive in runs. Great plays from Betsy Baker, Jackie Neenan, Tiffany Schafer earned the girls a win. Heather Resetar pitched a great game.
At the Baldwin Frosh-Soph invitational track meet, Ryan Ottavio, Greg Puga, Kevin Mille and Francisco Savinon placed third in the open 4 x 800 relay. Frank's anchor leg was run in 2:01. Tim Dand and Philip Lamour placed first and fourth in the high jump. Tim made an attempt at tying the meet record of 6 feet 1 inch but had to settle for the win at 5'10".
The Seahawk JV baseball team improved its record to 3-0 yesterday with a 23-3 win over Locust Valley. Victor Francois pitched a masterful game striking out 16 batters. Everybody hit yesterday, but Chris McMonigle and Craig Berkowitz were the offensive standouts.
The Carey JV Lacrosse team defeated Mineola 6-5. Outstanding defense was played by Paul Ferrara, John Skidmore and Lou Aragon. The teams record is now 4 and 1.
The Nassau Coaches meet was run at Massapequa High School. The Carey boys team won nine medals. Tim Dand placed 5th in the high jump. Greg Puga placed 8th in the sophomore 800. The 4 x 100 relay of Todd McClendon, Anthony Garofolo, Dan Sendrowski and Brian Gardner ran 52.2 for second place. Kevin Mille ran his first steeplechase of the year and placed 5th. Francisco Savinon placed 4th in the 1600 and 2nd in the 800 with a personal best of 2:01.6.
The Carey Varsity Softball team won an exciting game 9 to 7 over West Hempstead. Melissa Tramontano saved "bubbles" life with a two run single in the bottom of the 6th inning to put Carey ahead to stay. Nicole Terito had two hits and four runs batted in. Valerie Riccobono had two more hits and is now leading the team in hitting. Pamela Lombardi pitched the whole game for her 5th win of the season.
