With the help of State Senator Michael Balboni (R/C-Mineola), Nov. 10 has been declared "Indoor Air Quality Day" in New York State. Endorsed by sheet metal contractors' and workers' unions, the day is dedicated to promoting public awareness of the vital role proper ventilation construction plays in assuring indoor air quality.

"It is an honor for me to be a part of this initiative which will help raise construction standards, and ensure the health of New Yorkers in their homes, businesses and schools," said Balboni.

Balboni presented the official copies of the Senate Resolutions proclaiming "Indoor Air Quality Day" to William Freese, president of the Sheet Metal Air Conditioning Contractors National Association of New York State (SMACNA-NYS) and John Harrington, president of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association New York State Council (SMWIA-NYS).

In accepting the resolutions, Freese stated, "We view this event as indicating that strong public and governmental support exists for proper indoor air ventilation construction. Indoor Air Quality Day will demonstrate that contractors, unions and government officials working together, can achieve quality construction for the citizens of their communities."

Indoor Air Quality Day will feature a demonstration of proper ventilation construction at an as of yet, undetermined, major new school facility in the metropolitan area.

SMACNA-NYS represents nearly 200 unionized sheet metal contractors across New York State while SMWIA represents thousands of unionized sheet metal workers statewide. Working together, the two organizations promote quality construction, a safe work environment, and just wages and benefits for their workers.
