The Carey varsity baseball team pulled off one of their biggest wins ever knocking off league leader and 1998 County Finalist Garden City 4-2 in a tremendously exciting game. The Seahawks took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a double by Mike Bongiorno and singles by Gaspare Tumminello and Terry Huang, but Garden City tied it up in the third. In the fifth, Carey went ahead for good on singles by Donald Capriglione and Gary Novello, an error and a sacrifice fly by Bongiorno. The best was yet to come as winning pitcher Ray Negron, who pitched a great game, was relieved by Gary Novello with the bases loaded and one out in the last inning. Novello got the next hitter to pop up to first and struck out the next one to preserve the victory. The Carey Junior High track team competed against other schools in the district. Rebecca Stewart won the shot put with a toss of 23 feet. Shannon Magone won the high jump with a leap of four feet. The speed was shown by young Angela running the 400 in a time of 74 seconds. The Carey JV baseball team won the first game in a three game series yesterday by a score of 9-2 in Garden City. Victor Francois limited Garden City to three hits and went the distance. The defense was spectacular with many game saving catches by Anthony Stancanelli and Scott Hosemann. Craig Berkowitz and Kyle McKeown also contributed offensively. The Carey JV Softball team continued to roll with a 12-11 victory over Carle Place. Their offense was led by Kristina Lo Castro's two hits. Heather Resetar added a triple and Theresa Fortunato chipped in a double, a single and three RBIs. The Carey boy's junior high lacrosse team captured their first victory be defeating Elmont 11-4. Jason Diller led all scorers with four goals. Brandon Zalackas, Mike Tylutki and Josh Aglio each added two while Frank Lau closed out the scoring with a goal of his own. Midfielder, Mike Fuschetto has six assists. Alex Dunne was outstanding in goal with 12 saves. The Carey boys junior varsity team played a great game against Jericho High School. The score was 9 to 2 in favor of Carey. Outstanding offense was played by Matt Baccarella who had two goals and three assists, Aditya Ganapathiraju who had two goals and one assist. Lou Susino who had two goals, one assist. Lou Susino who had two goals, Joe Lianzo who also had two goals. Billy Houser who scored a goal and Kenny Costello who had an assist. The Glenn Loucks track and field championships were run at White Plains High School. Tim Dand placed fifth in the high jump with a lead of 5'10". On Friday, Francisco Savinon ran 4:32 in the trials of the 1600 to qualify for the finals. In the finals, Frank ran outstanding race to place 5th with a time of 4:29. The Cary junior high lacrosse team captured their second victory with a hard fought 6-4 battle over Sewanhaka. Brandon Zalackas was outstanding leading all Carey scorers with three goals. Allan Aragon added two goals of his own and Mike Fuschetto scored once to close out the scoring. Alex Dunne played a solid game in goal with 10 saves.
