Thanks to an obscure state senate race in Rockland County, Long Island commuters are about to enjoy a minor tax break. Recently, both the state senate and state assembly voted to repeal the commuter tax on suburbanites who work in New York City. Last week, Governor George Pataki signed the bill into law. FULL STORY

The Carey varsity baseball team pulled off one of their biggest wins ever knocking off league leader and 1998 County Finalist Garden City 4-2 in a tremendously exciting game. The Seahawks took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a double by Mike Bongiorno and singles by Gaspare Tumminello and Terry Huang, but Garden City tied it up in the third. In the fifth, Carey went ahead for good on singles by Donald Capriglione and Gary Novello, an error and a sacrifice fly by Bongiorno. FULL STORY
