The Carey Varsity baseball team overcame a late deficit and rallied for 14-9 win over Friend's Academy on May 4. Mike Bongiorno and Joe Cuoccio led the bat attack with 2 RBIs each, but it was Brian Magone's bases-loaded triple and 3 RBIs that proved to be the difference in an exciting league crossover game. Gary Novello earned the win in relief, striking out 6 in the final 4 innings. The Carey Varsity girls lacrosse team defeated Glen Cove by the score of 10-9 on April 30. The winning goal was scored by Erica Brennan with one minute left. Tremendous defense played by Lori Hain, Maureen Combs, Beatriz Barrera and Lisa Terrasi. The girls had seven different scorers to balance their attack. Yleana Roman took second place in the freshman "B" 100 hurdles with a time of 19.1 seconds on May 3. Also on Friday and Saturday, the girls traveled to the St. Anthony's Invitational. There the girls took home the trophy for 5th place out of 43 teams. Leading the way were: Alexis Whyte took 1st place in the discus throwing 111'8", Crystal Cammarano who broke her own record in the 1500 meter race walk and took 1st place with a time of 6:57 which was one second off the meet record and finishing the scoring was Kathleen Moran with a 5th place medal in the long jump 14'8" and a 1st place leap of 36'7" in the triple jump. This also broke her own school record and qualified her for the state meet. The Carey boys varsity lacrosse team defeated Glen Cove by a score of 9-3 on May 3. Andy Okolski and Joe Hordern each scored 3 goals, and the defense held Glen Cove to 10 shots total. The Carey JV baseball team won its fourth game of the season with an exciting 6-5 win over West Hempstead on April 28. Victor Francois pitched a complete game for his second win, John Dulberg and Craig Berkowitz each hit 2-run home runs, and J.J. Albanese threw a runner out in the last inning to preserve the win.
