Music Chairperson Debra O'Connor; Assemblyman Thomas Alfano and Music Teacher Jon Michael Lasher with members of Sewanhaka High School Orchestra at the State Capitol building.

The music department of Sewanhaka High School was invited to participate in the New York State School Music Association sponsored Music In Our Schools Month performance in Albany. On March 23 the Sewanhaka High School Orchestra, directed by Chairperson, Debra O'Connor and the Sewanhaka High School Jazz Ensemble, directed by Jon Michael Lasher traveled to Albany for the performance in the Empire Plaza. The performance was given at noon in the North Concourse of the plaza, adjacent to the State Capitol. The students were presented with proclamations commending their participation in this event by Senator Michael Balboni. Assemblyman Thomas Alfano greeted the students and attended the performance. The student musicians were enthusiastic to get this opportunity to perform for these legislative officers from Albany. The students also had the opportunity to tour the state capitol and attend a session held in the New York State Senate. The day in Albany for the Sewanhaka High School musicians was a "capitol experience."
