"Caring is our way of life," the Key Club motto, is a phrase that is carried out by Elmont Memorial High School's Key Club members each year. Under the guidance of club advisors Steve Benfante and Vincent Ambrosio, Key Club members offer their services to the community in a variety of ways. During the winter months the members provide an essential service to Elmont residents in the form of snow removal. What may be little more than an annoyance for most people could result in a frustrating and potentially dangerous situation for the elderly of the community. Realizing this, Key Club members have volunteered to shovel all snow from the sidewalks, driveways and steps for people who could use a helping hand. The second the first flakes hit the ground, a phone-chain call begins the snow removal network. Students are dispatched to designated houses armed with shovels and warm hearts. Once there, they remove the snow and wish the homeowner a pleasant and restful evening. All involved truly appreciate that caring is their way of life.

The Elmont Builders Club is a service organization that is sponsored by the Elmont Kiwanis Club. The club offers opportunities to junior high school students (grades 7-9) to develop leadership qualities through experiences in volunteer services to school and community. So far this year the club's 40 members have accomplished the following for their school: participated in the Homecoming Parade, ushered for shows and concerts and assisted as guides for Parent/Teacher Conference Day. For the Elmont community the group has accomplished the following: collected manufacturer's coupons worth $177.03 for Head-Start Programs, donated a complete dinner to a family of six for the holidays, donated $100 to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, donated $50 to the Class of 2003 for their Holiday Program, and collected $142.44 for the Iodine Deficiency Disease, a worldwide Kiwanis/UNICEF project. To raise the money needed for these worthy causes the members sold lemonade and cookies for one straight month.

The Builders Club organization is the youngest group in the Kiwanis family. Once a Builder completes 9th grade he/she is encouraged to join the Key Club to continue the commitment to serving the community.
