Last Thursday's outing, by the Floral Park Knights of Columbus bowlers, at the Bellerose Lanes, was one, to quote the great Jimmy Durante, where "everybody wanted to get inta the act!". Twenty-two of forty eligibles made the hotshot list, in one form or another, far surpassing the large evenings of the past.

Charley Bingold led the big parade with a beautiful 613 set that had a 212 and 203 games in its make-up, while Mike Honan crowded him, tossing a 205 and 233 on the way to a 609 series. Chet Strzepek came up with a 229 loner to card a 595 total, a whisker up on Eddy Hackimer's 222 single, 593 triple and Paul Simonetti's 591 total that included a 228 one-gamer. Bob Mashburn cranked out a 210 and a 202 on the way to a 581 while Tom Moore was posting a 200 and a 202 for a 573 total. Jack Price used a 210 single to fashion a 568 triple, Frank Dehler banged out a 201 and a 202 for a fine 563 set to occupy the same level as "Knobby" Gregory, whose 563 had a 204 game in its make-up and a Joe Silvestri 200 gave him a 559 three-gamer. Jim Kearney's 202 solo netted him a 557 trio, a whisker ahead of Bob Sheehan's 554 and John Luger's 553 while John Bartow with a 201 single, put a 546 on the books. Jack Brickman's 221 game, 537 set edged a Rick Lahey 535 and Mike Derby's 528, while Pat Murphy downed 526 sticks. Eddy Goodloe's night's work showed a 518, a few steps up on a Cliff Weinberg 503 and Joe Oswald squeezed onto the elite list with a 202.

This great show of bowling skill included a night of six "almosts" where the kegler almost made it to the honored level. Chet Strzepek, Bob Sheehan, John Luger and Pat Murphy shot 199 almosts while Joe Oswald and Herman Determann chimed in with 499s on the greatest "almost" night in the history of the more-than-half-century-old league.

The night's action saw the Pat Sweeney-led Starr Reporters down Joe Oswald's Lugerites in a 4-3 nailbiter while Eddy Hackimer was piloting his Dead Wood combine to a 4-3 win over the Mr. CP outfit, with Mike Honan calling signals. Eddy Goodloe's Goodo's Four did a 5-2 number on the Regals, captained by John O'Grady and The BOSS unit with John Bartow in the driver's seat blanked Pat Murphy's Whaco 2 combine. Ending the night's action, the Bob Mashburn-led Good Guys took Tom Moore's Pallbearers into camp via a 7-0 whitewashing.
