The JV football team extended their record to 4-2 on the year by defeating district rival New Hyde Park by a score of 13-7. Runningback Terry Huang was the leader once again by rushing for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Joe Lianzo and Chris Svoboda combined for 18 tackles. Outstanding games were turned in by Chris McMonigle, Anthony Green and Chris DiMartino.
Congratulations to the freshman girls cross country team for placing first at the Bob Pratt memorial invitational. Liz Eymold and Maria Rewiako were first and second followed by Shannon Magone (8th), Monica Rewiako (12th and Lauren Moran (27th).
The girls district swim team scored another overwhelming victory over Great Neck North HS by a score of 111 to 72. They remain undefeated with a record of 7 and 0. Melissa and Jessica Kolackovsky, Erica and Jackie Gerlach and Maria Miglino continue their undefeated streak.
The varsity soccer team was victorious against Lynbrook. Carey goal scorers were Dom Cervoni, Robert Rivas, Brian Truglio and Jason Dakis. Assists were provided by Greg Profeta and Henry Marin. The final score was 4-2 and the team remains undefeated.
The girls varsity volleyball team closed out an outstanding season by sweeping Sewanhaka in three games. In doing this, they clinched the conference VIII title. They finished with an outstanding record of 11-4.
The Carey varsity football team recently hosted arch rival New Hyde Park before an enormous crowd of 1,100 people. Carey stormed out to a 12-0 half-time lead behind touchdown runs by Matt Baker and Andy Okolski. New Hyde Park came back to take a 14-12 lead with two minutes left in the game. Faced with no time outs, Carey pulled off what is being referred to as "the drive." Brian Baebler, Matt Baker and Andy Okolski made key plays to lead to the winning touchdown with 24 seconds remaining. Carey is now 4 and 2 and ranked second in their 14 team conference! Congratulations Seahawks!
The Carey girls JV soccer team ended its season by shuting-out Oyster Bay 2-0. The first goal was scored by Jessica Rocchio who one-timed a beautiful cross from Megan Karcher into the back of the Oyster Bay net. The second goal was just as sweet: Antonella Cervoni played a pass from Carey's defensive end to Alaina Intagliata who placed a through ball to Megan Karcher. Megan then dribbled through two defenders and the goalie to score the final goal. A solid game was also played by Viviana Motisi and the defensive unit of Cavaliere, Baker, Stewart and Brodley.
The girls district swim team remains undefeated. They claimed an outstanding victory against Garden City, one of their toughest competitors.The final score was 94 to 89. Many of these swimmers did some of their best times of the season. The meet came down to the last event, the 4 by 100 yard relay where Melissa Kolackovsky, Erica Gerlach, Brittany Boehm and Nicole Fulgieri swam their fastest time and captured the meet. Melissa Kolacovsky and Erica Gerlach remain undefeated in their individual events. Brittany Boehm placed second in the 100-yard butterfly. Jessica Kolacovsky placed second in the 100-yard freestyle and Maria Miglino placed second in the 100-yard breastroke event.
The Carey varsity football team capped off a wonderful homecoming day with a 34-0 win over Calhoun. Carey's powerful performance was led by Andy Okolski's 201 yards rushing and a defense that made four interceptions. Geoff Carr, Tom DeBonis, Bryan Baebler and Sal Monastero had picks for the Hawks. Andrew "the kitchen" Papadoniou scored a touchdown on a one-yard run. Matt Corritone also had his first touchdown of the year. Carey improved to 5 and 2 to remain in second place in their conference.
At Bethpage State Park, Francisco Savinon placed sixth in the Conference II cross country championship with a time of 17:22. This qualified him for the county championships. The girls qualified as a team, placing fifth in the conference race. The team was led by Liz Eymold, who placed first with a new school record of 19:38.8. The old school record of 19:48 was held by teammate Crystal Cammarano. Other members of the qualifying team were Crystal Cammarano, Maria Rewiako, Tyng Tsuei, Melissa Yanek, Betty Pavlick and Shannon Magone.
