I wanted to take this opportunity to say "thank you" to the many residents whose votes last Tuesday made it possible for me to continue as Hempstead Supervisor next year. Your support and confidence are truly appreciated. We will continue to work hard to hold the line on taxes, protect our environment, improve our parks and revitalize our downtowns.
In the 1999 budget, we were able to hold the line of the general fund taxes for the seventh time in the past eight years. Our bond rating was upgraded by both Moody's and Fitch's international bond rating agencies, making the Town of Hempstead's bond rating the highest of ant town or county on Long Island. We will continue to manage the town's finances responsibly and at the same time, implement important and exciting programs and policies in the Town of Hempstead. Whether it be protecting our landmarks through our Landmark Commission, protecting our beaches or helping the disabled through our ANCHOR program, we will be there for our residents.
As a husband and father, I want Hempstead to be the best possible place in which to live, work and raise a family. As a homeowner, I want Hempstead's taxes to be as low as possible. We can make it happen.
If you cast a vote for me last week, thank you. If you voted for a different candidate, or didn't vote at all, I hope to win your support in the future. Either way, my door is open to you. Please feel free to call me at Town Hall.
Richard Guardino
Hempstead Town Supervisor
