At the Saint Anthony's invitational cross-country championships at Sunken Meadow State Park, the freshman girls cross country team placed third. Liz Eymold placed second with an excellent time of 8:53.3 for the 1.5 mile race and Maria Rewiako placed 20th. They were followed by Monica Rewiako, Shannon Magone, Heather Magone, Colleen Cammarano and Laura Moran. Other medal winners were Crystal Cammarano who placed 19th in the varsity girls race and Francisco Cavinon who placed 17th in the varsity boys race.
The Junior Varsity football team improved to 2-1 with a "down to the wire," 13-12 victory over district rival Elmont. Terry Huang was the offensive leader gaining 91 yards rushing and catching a 20-yard pass for a touchdown. The defense played a tough game stopping Elmont on a two-point conversion with 38 seconds remaining to preserve the win. Joe Lianzo led all tacklers with 10 and Louis Susino added eight tackles and a sack. In all, it was a great team victory.
The junior high cross country team carpeted for the second time. The girls team being led by Lauren Vega, won the girls half of the meet. The boys led by Peter Luciano placed second, only points behind Floral Park. Good job!
The girls JV volleyball team upended the Malverne Mules 15-0, 15-2. Great serving by Kristina LoCastro helped fuel the win. Excellent passing from Liesl Locke and setting from Kristan Tetmeyer also were factors. Their record is now 4-2.
The Sewanhaka district girls swim team competed against Farmingdale high school and scored an overwhelming victory. The final score was Sewanhaka District 118, Farmingdale 52.
Melissa Kolackovsky of H. Frank Carey won the 200-yard free-style and the 100-yard freestyle.
Erica Gerlach won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke. Brittany Boehm won the 100-yard butterfly and placed second in the 50 freestyle. Other wins were: Jackie Gerlach - first in the 500 and Jessica Kolackovsky a very close second place.
The girls varsity volleyball team improved their record to 5-3 by defeating Roosevelt in four games. Outstanding defense by Val Riccobono and serving by Anna Cesarano helped in the victory.
The varsity football team defeated Elmont 26-18 to improve its record to 2 and 1. Andy Okolski and Sal Monastero each rushed for over 100 yards. The defense was led by tackle Andrew Papadoniou defensive back Tom DeBonis and defensive end Mickey Parris.
The Carey JV soccer team had a scoring fest with a win over Freeport by the score of 8 to 0. Two goals were scored by Megan Karcher and Jamie Cavaliere. One goal was scored by Alaina Intagliata, Jessica Rocchio, Antonella Cervoni and Vanessa Figueroa.
The girls varsity volleyball team beat Malverne in four games to increase their overall record to 4 - 3. Great serving by Diana Gering and aggressive net play by Lori Resetar were keys to the win.
