This letter is written in response to the article which appeared in The Three Village Times and other Anton newspapers (9/24): "Only Zwirn Can Save North Hempstead."

I'm happy to hear that Steve Sabbath "looked better than he had in years." However, the Nassau County Democratic Party under his leadership¬or lack of same¬has never looked worse.

The chairman devotes more of his energies to promoting himself and attacking members of his own party, than he does to assisting candidates and the vital issues of concern to voters and taxpayers.

He has deliberately alienated the very people who are dedicated to creating a meaningful two-party system in Nassau County. A case in point is the speed with which he abandoned James LaRocca as "a phony bum" shortly after he selected LaRocca as the party's gubernatorial standard bearer in the primary. Steve Sabbath's loyalty appears to be for sale and his efforts directed toward perpetuating himself and his personal fiefdom.

The Democratic Party and Nassau County deserve better. Fortunately, more and more Democrats are arriving at that conclusion and are coming forward to make the hoped-for change a reality.
