    Nine Nassau businesses, including the Home Depot store on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont, have been charged by District Attorney Denis Dillon with violating a local law that prohibits the sale of box cutters to minors and also regulates the manner in which they are displayed. FULL STORY

  • NEWS: Sewanhaka Board of Education Re-elects President, Vice President; Welcomes Four New Trustees

    The Sewanhaka Central High School District Board of Education met for its annual reorganization meeting and re-elected Martin Cernese of New Hyde Park - Garden City Park as its president. Cernese has been a trustee of the New Hyde Park/Garden City Park Board of Education in 1992 and appointed to the Sewanhaka Central High School District board in 1994. He has a bachelor's degree in Operations and Management, a master's degree in business from the New York Institute of Technology, and is currently director of the Eastern Region of Aeronautical Radio, Inc. Cernese has been a resident of New Hyde Park for the past 25 years. He and his wife Noreen have three children: Nicholas, a senior at Boston University, Richard a junior at NYU and Danielle a student at New Hyde Park Memorial High School. FULL STORY
