Valley Stream North School held its Varsity Sports Awards Night dinner on May 26, emceed by Athletic Director Herb May.

Coaches' Awards for Most Valuable Player were presented to the following students at North High School: badminton, Christine Wong; baseball, James Colasanto; basketball, Ken Erker, Carrie Senzel; bowling, Vito Genova; cross country, George Zervoudis; football, Franco Maffettone; soccer, Michael Scarola, Dina Cali; softball, Andrea Giarraffa; track, Dan Parella; volleyball, Jeffrey Plett, Laura Lopez; wrestling, Salvatore Cardillo.

The Army Scholar/Athlete Awards went to Michael Scarola and Corin Gioia. The Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Awards went to Salvatore Cardillo and Justine Simonson. Vincent DiNome was the recipient of the Michael Witteck Award for competitiveness. Winner of the John Miele Scholarship Award was Gregory Verni.

The Mayor's Awards, given in recognition of high athletic achievement as well as academics, character, leadership and civic service, were presented to Christopher Riccardi and Kathryn Risolo.

The Waldinger Awards, presented to the outstanding male and female scholar/athletes in multiple sports were awarded to James Colasanto and Kathryn Risolo.

The Spartan Athlete of the Year Awards for excellence in two or more sports were won by Jeffrey Plett and Christine Wong.

Justine Simonson was awarded the Spartan Club Scholarship.
