For the past several months the Elmont Board of Education and the administration have been working hard in assessing, analyzing and evaluating all aspects of the Alva T. Stanforth building purchase. It is the board's desire to inform the community, not only of the pros and cons of purchasing a seventh school building, but also to provide alternative solutions to the space problem in the district.

Unfortunately some of the time lines previously established do not permit the administration to provide the thorough analysis this project requires. Therefore, some of the meetings that had been scheduled had to be cancelled until additional meaningful information could be shared with the community. The meeting scheduled for June 30 will be postponed. The administration is seeking clearance to obtain several variances from the State Education department that are necessary in rehabilitating the Alva T. Stanforth building.

We apologize for any inconvenience changes in dates may cause. We believe however, that the community concurs that we need to continue to proceed cautiously and responsibly.

Concetta Cicio, District Clerk, Elmont Union Free School District
