Hail to the Champions! The Whacos, led by Ted Nowacki and manned by Frank Dehler, John Bartow and Herman Determann wear the crown of this season's Kings of the Hill, roosting atop the final standings of the Floral Park Knights of Columbus Bowling League as this very colorful and exciting group of wood-wallopers reached the end of a highly successful and record-producing season.

The curtain-dropper saw Tommy Moore take the High Average title by the proverbial whisker. His nifty 639 set, scored on games of 234, 209 and 201 gave him a final 18 edge over Chet Strzepek, whose fine 228 solo, 568 trio fell just short of top shelf. Mike Honan took second honors for the night using a 241 beauty to card a 585 three-gamer and Mike Derby's 202 single led to a 573 triple, followed by Chet's 568. Bob Mashburn rolled a 204 on way to a 529, edging a "Knobby" Gregory 209 loner, 528 series and Richie Biggin's 521 set built on a 201 single effort. A Pat Murphy 200 gave him a 518 total, a whisker up on John Luger's 517 and Rich Lahey's 509, while Paul Simonetti's 202 loner led to a 508 count. Bob Sheehan's 503 total included a 199 "almost" and Mike Gallagher brought up the rear, with a 500.

Team action saw Teddy Nowacki's Whacos whitewash the J Crew, with Jim Kearney at the controls, via a 7-0 rout while Bob Mashburn was piloting his Mailmen to a 5-2 victory over Team Moss, quarterbacked by Paul Simonetti. Pat Murphy's Standing Pat four blanked the Saints, bossed by "Knobby" Gregory, via a 7-0 count while The Gloms, with Eddy Goodloe in the driver's seat, eked out a nailbiter 4-3 win over Tony Morena and his Team Three combine. Ending the action for the night and the season, Jimmy O'Neill's Dot Heads did a 5-2 number on the Shumstetters, captained by Joe Oswald.
