The Carey 7th grade softball team put on a clinic. They were hitting machines against N.H.P. with an incredible home run over centerfield by Sabrina Wittum (2) doubles, (2) singles from Melissa Masaracchia, line drives hit by Meri Simone, Kristina LoCastro and Joan Margino the girls dominated. Excellent fielding by Heather Magone, Jessica Stein and Jamie Cavaliere led the girls 33-8.
The Seahawk junior high baseball team won its second game beating Floral Park 14-7 and is now 2-0. Russ Manalastas pitched a no hitter for three innings and also hit a home run with 2 RBIs. Ron Ferraro was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs.
The Lady Seahawks junior high lacrosse team beat Elmont 7-3. Jayna Kyriacou, Heather Ryan and Lea Cohen all scored. Liz Everson had three assists and Pat Karellas had six saves for the win.
The Carey Junior High lacrosse team claimed its first victory by defeating Elmont 11-2. Matt Baccarella was outstanding scoring five goals and recording three assists. Mike Perna paced the attack with three goals. Chris Fragala, Billy Hauser and Erick Carbone each added a goal. John Skidmore, Anthony Green and Roger Sorto played great defense. Dan Debonis was taught in goal gathering 11 saves.
The Lady Seahawks took first place and were led by the likes of Ily Roman, Lauren Moran, Jessica Kolackovsky, Jenny Mastrarrigo and Colleen Cammarano. Matt DiCamillo, Nick Totoro and Kenny Kruk were also very convincing for the boys.
The girls varsity lacrosse team defeated West Hempstead 13 to 9. Great defense by Stephany Fontanone and Anna Cesarano held West Hempstead to only four second half goals. Erica Brennan, Meri Natale, Liesl Locke and Marianne Migut also had great games helping the team secure its first victory.
The Carey girls track team lost to Southside and Westbury and defeated Great Neck North in a quad meet. Record breaking performances were made by Crystal Cammarano in the 1500 and Kathleen Moran in the triple jump. Also scoring valuable points were Annmarie Miskell in the 800 and 3,000. Jen O'Driscoll in the 800, Melissa Yanek in the 1500 and Alexis Whyte, Lori McAllister and Jill Makarius in the shot put and discus.
The boy's track team lost to Elmont while beating Floral Park and Sewanhaka in the district meet. Individual winners for Carey were Reonard Lamour who won both the triple and long jumps. He was unanimously chosen by the coaches as the outstanding male athlete in the field events. Andrew Papadoniou won the shot with a toss of 40'9." The outstanding runner for Carey was Alonzo Haughton placing second in both the 400 hurdles and the 400. He also led off the 2nd place 4 x 100 relay which ran a season best of 46.8.
The Seahawk JV boys baseball team won its season opener against Manhasset by the score of 13-6. Freshman Scott Hoseman pitched four innings for the win, and Craig Berkowitz was the hitting star with a triple and a double.
The boys JV volleyball team capped off an undefeated week by beating Clarke in two games. They steamrolled previously unbeaten Herricks in three exciting games.
