For the Floral Park Knights of Columbus Keglers, the end of an outstanding season may be looming in the offing but there is no evidence of an end to the pin-punishing exploits of the local lads, as they continue to clobber the wood in unprecedented fashion.
"Knobby" Gregory, showing no evidence of cooling off, these past few outings, sizzled to a wow of a 657 set, tossing games of 218,236 and 203 to wear the Hotshot crown with Rich Lahey a far second, as he rolled a 234 and a 199 "almost" to card a 597, grabbing the second slot, just a whisker up on Frank Dehler's 596, built on games of 216 and 222. Bob Mashburn's 583 series included a 203 loner, Chet Strzepek used a 205 solo to post a 545 trio and Tommy Moore had a solid 541. A Mike Honan 213 single led to a 539 count, a step up on John Bartow's 204 game 535 series while Paul Simonetti was downing 533 sticks, 213 in one outing. Richie Biggin and Eddy White were locked, at 528 ¬ Eddy tossing a 199 "almost" as John Luger trailed them, with a 513. Jim Kearney's 505 edged Eddy Hackimer who was the caboose on The Star Train, at 503.
Team play saw Ted Nowacki's league-leading Whackos bow to the Pat Sweeney-led Mailmen, via a 4-3 count, while Paul Simonetti's Team Moss four downed the Tony Morena-led Team Three crew in a 5-2 battle. Jimmy O'Neill piloted his Dot Heads to a 5-2 win over The Gloms with Eddy Goodloe in the driver's seat, as the Standing Pats, quarterbacked by Pat Murphy, did a 5-2 number on the J Crew, led by Jim Kearney. Ending the night's action, "Knobby" Gregory's Saints took Joe Oswald and his Shumstetters into camp via a 5-2 score.
