With the arrival of spring, the Town of Hempstead will be undertaking several road refurbishing projects in this area, some of them fairly significant.

In West Hempstead, the town will undertake a major resurfacing project along Eagle Avenue. This project will include the installation of handicap ramps at all intersections, an overlay of new pavement on existing asphalt pavements, and the restoration of disturbed grass areas.

While the contract that the town has signed with Carlo Lizza and Sons Paving, Inc. calls on the contractor to keep at least a portion of the roadway clear for local traffic at all times, some interruption of the flow of traffic can still be anticipated.

In addition, some driveways leading onto Eagle Avenue may also be blocked for a time. During construction, all driveway aprons along Eagle Avenue will be replaced, in the same location and size as now exists. During the repaving project applications for new driveway aprons will not be issued.

This project follows closely the completion of another road maintenance project in the area, the storm drain installation in the Maplewood and Morton Avenue area.

In Franklin Square, the town will shortly begin a road resurfacing project on Dogwood Avenue, similar to that being undertaken on Eagle Avenue.

In addition, a storm water drain and road improvement program has been planned for the Gardenia Park area, though the budget outlay for the project has not yet been approved by the Hempstead Town board.

Similarly, a major storm water drain and road improvement project projected to cost in the vicinity of $3 million has also been tentatively scheduled for the fall in the Fieldmere, 109th Street area of Elmont. This project too is awaiting final approval by the Hempstead Town Board.
