Learn all the strokes and strategies needed to improve your tennis game by registering for instructional beginner or intermediate lessons offered this spring by the Town of Hempstead Department of Parks and Recreation. Supervisor Rich Guardino has announced the complete class and registration schedule for the coming season.
"Whether you enjoy tennis as a conditioning activity or as a competitive event, a town lesson is guaranteed to improve your game," commented Supervisor Guardino. "From first serve to match point, town lessons offer expert instruction on all facets of the sport."
Beginner and intermediate lessons will be offered at the following parks: Rath Park, 849 Fenworth Boulevard, Franklin Square; Seamans Neck Park, 2700 South Seamans Neck Road, Seaford; Oceanside Park, 190 Carel Boulevard, Oceanside; Speno Park, Newbridge Avenue, East Meadow and Baldwin Park, 3232 South Grand Avenue, Baldwin Harbor.
Beginner lessons will be conducted at the aforementioned parks on Mondays and Wednesdays (beginning April 20) at the following times: 10 to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon at Seamans Neck and Speno Parks; 11 a.m. to noon and noon to 1 p.m. at Baldwin Park; 11 a.m. to noon and noon to 1 p.m. on Mondays only at Rath Park; and 11 a.m. to noon and noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays only at Oceanside Park.
Intermediate lessons will take place at the same locations on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning April 21 on the following schedule: 10 to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon at Seamans Neck and Speno Parks; 11 a.m. to noon and noon to 1 p.m. at Baldwin Park; 11 a.m. to noon and noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays only at Rath Park and 11 a.m. to noon and noon to 1 p.m. on Thursdays only at Oceanside Park.
All lessons, regardless of level or location, will register at the Merrick Road Park Golf Course Clubhouse on Clubhouse Road in Merrick on Tuesday, April 7, from noon to 3 p.m. A registration fee of $20 ($10 for senior citizens) is payable by check or money order made out to the Town of Hempstead.
Evening lessons will be scheduled this spring at Seamans Neck and Baldwin Parks. Classes will be held at both sites on Monday and Wednesday nights, beginning April 20. Seamans Neck will host beginners from 7 to 8 p.m. and intermediates from 8 to 9 p.m. Baldwin Parks welcomes intermediates from 7 to 8 p.m. and beginners from 8 to 9 p.m.
All evening classes, regardless of time or location, will register in the Clubhouse of the Merrick Road Park Golf Course on Monday evening, April 6, from 7 to 8 p.m. Again the fees are $20 and $10 for senior citizens.
All tennis participants will be asked to supply their own rackets and balls. For additional class or registration information, call the Town of Hempstead Department of Parks and Recreation at 292-9000, ext. 256.
