The recent stretch of springlike weather must have put the necessary "zip" into the muscles of the Floral Park Knights of Columbus bowlers as shown in the great exhibition of "wood-walloping" they put on, last Thursday, at the Bellerose Lanes.
Tommy Moore switched into high gear, banging out 247 and 236 nifties, on his way to a beautiful 671 set while Chet Strzepek was using a 204 and a 201 single to post a fine 596 triple. Paul Simonetti's 206 loner gave him a 587 three-gamer, Frank Block built a 550 trio, using a 221 solo and Bob Mashburn banged out a solid 546. Eddy Goodloe's 205 single led to a 543 triple, a few steps up on Charley Corkhill's 530 while Eddy White's 509, built on a 208 one-gamer, edged John O'Grady's 507 effort that included a 211 solo. Pat Sweeney dumped 503 sticks and Rich Lahey had his face pressed to the Hotshots window, with a 499 "almost."
In team action, the Gloms, quarterbacked by John O'Grady, did a 5-2 number on the Whaco forces of Ted Nowacki while the Paul Simonetti-led team MOSS was whitewashing Joe Oswald's Shumstetters, in a 7-0 rout. Jim Kearney piloted his J Crew to a 5-2 win over Pat Sweeney and his Mailmen. Team THREE, with Tony Morena calling signals, blanked the Standing Pat combine, bossed by Pat Murphy, via a 7-0 count and, wrapping up the night's action, the Dot Heads, with Jimmy O'Neill in the driver's seat, handed "Knobby" Gregory and his Saints a 7-0 setback.
