Beginning today, students who are proficient in American Sign Language can learn about photography from award-winning deaf photographer Alnoe T. Paler. This exciting, one-of-a-kind workshop merges the worlds of photography and American Sign Language. Students will be introduced to the art of photography, including subject matter, composition, and lighting. At the conclusion of the workshop, students have the opportunity to participate in a photography exhibit showcasing the talent of the members of the deaf community. The D’Addario Community Music Appreciation Initiative and the Hofstra University Music Department will present a free outdoor concert from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on Hofstra’s South Campus, Hempstead. Opportunity and Impact: Works by Émigré Artists. This original exhibition examines the role of émigré artists in reshaping the nature of American art. The exhibit features artists who arrived from Europe during the early 20th century to present-day émigrés from Africa, Cuba, and South Africa. Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced on Dec. 19 that eight people have been arrested and charged with selling counterfeit shoes, handbags, and electronics at an outdoor flea market in Valley Stream.
Rice said that on Saturday, Dec. 15, investigators from the DA’s Office conducted a joint operation with the Nassau County Police Department’s Asset Forfeiture Unit and ICE’s Trademark Counterfeit team at the Green Acres Outdoor Flea Market. Numerous booths were identified by experts for selling counterfeit Coach and Louis Vuitton handbags, UGG boots, music CDs, and DVDs.
