What’s New at the JAA

Jericho Athletic Association is seeking applications for Board of Directors positions, or for member of one of our Sports Committees.

Persons who reside in the Jericho School District who are interested in serving as members of the Board of Directors of the Jericho Athletic Association (JAA) or as a member of one of our Sports Committees are invited to apply by written application to be emailed to Joel Sweetbaum, president of the JAA, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The application should contain the applicant’s name and address as well as a brief statement setting forth why the applicant is interested in serving on the JAA Board or Sports Committees.

Rules:

-Applicants must reside in the Jericho School District.

-Applications should be submitted no later than June 1.

-Interviews for open positions will be on June 15, with elections of the Board to be held on June 22.

-Board meetings are regularly held on the first Tuesday of each month.

JAA Travel Soccer Tryouts

Below are the dates for travel soccer team tryouts for the fall season. All sessions per age group are mandatory for all players, and will take place at Seaman Elementary School. Please help the Jericho Athletic Association by following these rules:

1. Arrive 15 minutes prior to your start time in order to register a child; there is a consent form online that MUST be filled out and brought to the tryout.

2. Parents will not be permitted to stay during the evaluations.

3. All players must wear shin guards, bring ample drinks, and no child can wear a developmental soccer or travel team jersey.

Age Groups:

U10 = third-graders who will be entering fourth grade this fall

U11 = fourth-graders who will be entering fifth grade this fall

U12 = fifth-graders who will be entering sixth grade this fall

U13 = sixth-graders who will be entering seventh grade this fall

U14 = seventh-graders who will be entering eighth grade this fall

U10:

Thursday, June 10

Boys – 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Girls - 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Tuesday, June 15

JAA Travel Baseball Tryouts

Below are the dates and information for the Travel Baseball Tryouts for the 2010/2011 season. All tryouts for grades three through six will take place at the High School on the following dates:

Wednesday, June 2

Registration at 5 p.m.

Tryouts from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Friday, June 4

Check in at 5:45 p.m.

Tryouts from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

The tryout for grades six through nine will take place at Jackson Elementary Schools on the following date:

Friday, June 11

Check in at 5 p.m.

Tryouts from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Please see eligibility information below to determine which tryout your child should attend. Also, please help the JAA by reading and following all the information below:

1. Please arrive on time to register your child so they will be ready for the start of the actual tryout.

2. There is a consent form online that MUST be read, filled out, signed and brought to the tryout. No child will be permitted to try out without this form.

3.Both the June 2 and June 4 tryout sessions are mandatory.

4.There will be a $10 registration fee that will be collected at the first session.

5.Please make sure your child brings all of their baseball equipment and ample drinks.

6.Parents are asked to leave after they have registered their child and to return to pick up their child at the end of the session.

7.Please note that positions are available on ALL teams and that tryouts are open to all children whether or not they have previously played on a travel baseball team.

Children who are eligible for the tryouts on June 2 and June 4 are the following:

Eleven-year olds: Born 5/1/98 through 4/30/99; current fifth- and sixth- graders

Ten-year olds: Born 5/1/99 through 4/30/00; current fourth- and fifth-graders

Nine-year olds: Born 5/1/00 through 4/30/01; current third- and fourth-graders

 There will be a mandatory parent meeting at the tryout field at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2 for the parents of the 9 and 10-year-old age groups. Children who are eligible for the tryout on June 11 are the following:

Fourteen-year olds: Born 5/1/95 through 4/30/96; current eighth- and ninth-graders

Thirteen-year olds: Born 5/1/96 through 4/30/97; current seventh- and eighth-graders

Twelve-year olds: Born 5/1/97 through 4/30/98; current sixth- and seventh-graders
