As we move forward into the season we will be updating with additional discounts and offerings as well as other programs and opportunities for the players and families of Syosset Baseball Association.
The season is slated to start the week of April 12, just after everybody returns from the Spring ’10 break. Evaluations for our 9-12 year old divisions have concluded and drafts held to form those teams. Commissioners for the 5-8 year olds and Junior and Senior Divisions are working selecting managers and coaches and building their respective teams as well. Shortly you will be notified by your manager of details for the upcoming season, uniforms and schedules.
The association is planning an official opening day the first for Syosset Baseball Association with 1 game from our Major League Division to be held on Wednesday, April 14 at Syosset Woodbury Park, with Opening Day festivities being planned now to launch the 2010 season. All subsequent games for all Divisions will kick off the opening weekend of our 56th year starting Saturday, April 17 for the 5-year-old T-Ball Division through our 11/12 Year Old Major League Division and Sunday April 18 for the Junior and Senior League Divisions.
We will continue with Inter-Town Intramural Baseball, against local teams from Jericho and Bethpage. Your respective schedule will provide you with details for your Division and team if your Division is eligible for this opportunity. For those Divisions where scores are kept with standings, these games will count toward your record. These teams are your regular intramural team that will compete against another town’s intramural team.
On August 22, Syosset Baseball Association will be holding their Second Annual Family Night with The Long Island Ducks at Citibank Park in West Islip. The game slated for 5:05 p.m. featured the Long Island Ducks vs. The Newark Bears. Prior to the start of the game, the kids will have an opportunity to meet the Ducks players and get autographs and at the conclusion of the game, an opportunity to run the bases at Citibank Park. Prior to the opening pitch, a designated Syosset Baseball Association team will be honored with an opportunity for the players to go onto the field and stand next to their Ducks Professional Player counterpart during the National Anthem. Last year, our AAA Division Champion, Schneider, Mitola LLP, managed by Larry Turell had the honor and excitement of this day in our inaugural event with the Ducks. Ticket forms are available at both Bagel Master and Woodbury Sports as well as have been distributed during the evaluations of the 9 through 12 year old Divisions and are available on the Syosset Baseball website www.syossetbaseball.org. Please note, tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis with a limited number of tickets reserved for this game.
To continue where we left off last year providing the optimum playing conditions in the event of rain, last year our game cancellations were held to a minimum due to everyone’s cooperative effort, getting out onto the fields and helping rake out puddles, and raking in quick-dry. We will be continuing with this, enhancing this with field spotters throughout the area, thus in the event of rain, our spotters will report in on field conditions, maintenance needed to get the field into game ready condition by game time and in the event the field by the spotter would be deemed unplayable, report back and move that game to a playable field and immediately notify managers, players, umpires and if needed scoreboard operator.
