Battle Of The Braves

The 8-year-old Syosset Braves played their home opener versus the Bellmore Braves last week. This battle of the Braves has been much anticipated as Syosset has been looking to avenge a heartbreaking loss last year.

The home fans would not be disappointed as the Syosset Braves set the tone early.  Luca Pipia took Syosset’s opening play 60 yards for the first touchdown of the day. The extra point was added by a pass connection from Braden Sosnik to Alex Siegel.

Not to be outdone, the defense hit the field with Darrin Costa causing a fumble which was recovered by Terrence Johnson III.

Andrew Brotman broke a 12 yard scamper for his first career touchdown. QB Braden Sosnik added the extra point with a QB sweep.

Sosnik would add another TD from under center in the following possession.

Dan Garibaldi added a late touchdown that was set up by a 25 yard run from Kyle Joe.  Kyle Joe picked up the extra point on a QB Keeper.

Syosset Braves showed a balanced attack with ten different ball carriers. Adam Giovinco, Darrin Costa, Ethan Hart, Kai Moskovich, and Avery Kurtzer added tough long runs over the course of the game.

Syosset defense was stingy all day after causing the opening set turnover.  With crucial drive stopping tackles and pressure on the running back and quarterback, Syosset held Bellmore scoreless.

Syosset won with a final score of 27-0. Syosset record moves to 2-1.

This was a total team effort on both sides of the ball by Joshua Blond, Andrew Brotman, Darrin Costa, Daniel Garibaldi, Adam Giovinco, Alex Goodman, Ethan Hart, William Henry, Kyle Joe, Terrance Johnson III, Avery Kurtzer, Brandt Morgan, Kai Moskovich, Luca Pipia, Giovanni Reyes, Alex Siegel, Robbie Sokolski, and Braden Sosnik.

Syosset dedicated this win to Matthew Donaldson a teammate who was injured this past week and could not play but was on the sideline to support his team.
