The American Heart Association’s Fourth Annual Healing Heart 5K Run/Walk, sponsored by East End Cardiology was held last month on the property of the beautiful Martha Clara Vineyards in the heart of the Long Island wine country in Riverhead. Despite the poor weather, more than 900 runners, walkers and spectators came out to participate in the much anticipated event.
Following the race, event emcee, Rich Hoffman, News 12 Meteorologist, presented to the top male and female runners along with the top runners in various age categories. Those in attendance were then treated to music by Rum Hill Rockers and Out East. A health expo was also available during the event and was open to all participants.
The event raised over $80,000. Special thanks to all the donors, participants and volunteers, especially East End Cardiology, NJROTC and the Tortorella Group for supporting the American Heart Association and helping with all the day of event logistics.
The Healing Heart 5K hopes to raise awareness that heart disease is the number one killer of men and women across the country and here on Long Island. The event creates a culture of health and physical activity, giving families the opportunity to participate in heart healthy activities together.
