Softball players of varied sizes and ages all turned out for the annual Syosset Youth Athletic Council (SYAC) Girls Softball Skills Clinic at Syosset-Woodbury Park last month.
The Long Island Thunderbolts, a premier tournament level softball organization, led the clinic. The Thunderbolts, which fields teams at U14, U16 and U18 levels, includes many high school-aged players who got their start playing on teams in the SYAC Girls Softball program.
SYAC, which spans at least four decades of Syosset history, has teams in four divisions from kindergarten through seventh grade. Several hundred girls from Syosset, Woodbury and Jericho take part each spring, and SYAC also fields a travel program with teams in three age groups in competition around Long Island in the spring and fall.
SYAC depends upon an extensive network of moms and dads who volunteer as softball coaches, and a host of local businesses and organizations that sponsor teams.
