Registration is underway for girls to play SYAC Girls Softball this spring, and one more date is available to sign up and be evaluated for a team: Saturday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon in the small gym at H.B. Thompson Middle School. Girls should wear sneakers and bring a fielding mitt. They also may bring a bat, though bats are provided. All girls who register and are evaluated are placed on teams. The cost for the season is $130.
SYAC invites parents to volunteer to coach SYAC teams. There also are opportunities for local businesses and organizations to sponsor SYAC teams. Team rosters are announced in March. SYAC then holds skills clinics to help the girls to learn the game and to help parents to be good coaches. The season begins in April and lasts into early June, when playoffs are held. Games are weekday evenings, beginning at 6:30 p.m.To sign up a child for SYAC, register online at www.syacgs.org, then attend a registration and evaluation session for a brief skills evaluation. Alternately, sign up at the evaluation and bring a check. Girls in grades K-1 do not need to take an evaluation; all others must do so. For more information, visit www.SYACGS.org.
