The Syosset High School boys’ varsity soccer team earned their first Nassau County Championship title since 1998, defeating Massapequa High School on Monday, Nov. 12.
The Braves moved on to face the second-ranked team in the county, Brentwood High School, on Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Long Island Championship. The team played a great game but was unfortunately defeated by Brentwood, 1-0. Overall, Syosset had a great season, finishing league play with an 11-2-1 record.
Off the field, in their tenth year of participating in the Tunnel to Towers Run, the Braves helped to raise $2,000 for the foundation for which the race is named. In the wake of the devastation brought to the area by Hurricane Sandy, the players sought ways to support those in need. After learning that six soccer players from Massapequa (the team they had played in the county finals) had their homes affected by the storm, the Syosset team rallied quickly to raise $600 and present each player with a $100 gift card.
