Among the highlights of the Feb. 21, 2012 General Open Meeting of the Greater Long Island Running Club was a presentation of a check in the amount of $2500 to the Opening Word Program.
The Opening Word, which is conducted by the Dominican Sisters, is the charitable beneficiary of the Running Club’s annual Carter, DeLuca, Farrell & Schmidt Ho Ho Ho Holiday Run. The mission of the Program is to teach the English language to undereducated and underemployed immigrant women, helping them to live as productive members of society. The program is conducted by the Dominican Sisters.
“The Opening Word Program is like a door open to many opportunities. It is a window to knowledge. It is like a little light in a tunnel. This little light stands for hope in this new life in the United States.”
