Syosset Travel Softball Teams Play Into November Chill

No one told SYAC Travel Softball teams from Syosset that autumn is getting chilly. Several teams played through the falling leaves, as they wrapped up their fall seasons on Sunday, Nov. 6.

The Syosset Hurricanes played into the first round of playoffs in the U14 division of the Long Island Waves league that plays at Morley Park in Roslyn. Syosset fell to a strong opponent and wrapped up their season in a valiant effort. The Hurricanes marked their fifth year of being one of Syosset’s premier travel teams. Many thanks go out to coaches Rob Marlow, Larry Hirschheimer and Anthony Beovich.

The Syosset Cyclones U12 team played three games that weekend and came away with two wins. That secured them a second place finish in the National Division of the NJBL Softball League with an 8-4 record. On Saturday, they split a pair with the Plainview Hawks. Then, on Sunday, the Cyclones topped Westbury after pouring on the runs late in a game they dominated throughout. Jessica Friedman hit a bases clearing double, and Liz Sorge rounded the bases with a home run smash that scooted past the center fielder. Many thanks go out to coach Christine Casale, assisted by Jim Sorge and student trainer Paula Janowsky, for a great fall season.

Not playing last Sunday were the Syosset Cyclones U10 Junior and U10 Senior teams, who have completed their seasons. Thanks go out to coaches Amy Cicio, Bruce Cayne, Frank and Andrea DiCostanzo, and to student trainers Alexa Beovich and Danielle Zurek who helped out all season.

Syosset travel teams will train over the winter and be back in competition in the spring. For more information about SYAC Travel and SYAC Intramural softball (played in spring, January registration, grade K-9) visit
