Jericho Varsity football put together four quarters of football which resulted in an impressive win over the Herricks Highlanders 35-7. It was an all-out well-orchestrated 48 minutes of football.
Jericho started the same way they always have done with the defense stopping opposing teams, but this week it was not just in the first half. After the Jayhawks stopped the Highlanders on their first possession, the Hawks came out with a new look on offense, the wishbone. The first touchdown came when Jason Albinder took the handoff from Ian Green for a 4-yard touchdown run.
Jericho was moving the ball on offense one first down after another. Then on a fourth and inches Coach William Martinez went for it and was successful, another first down. On the next play, Chandler Kirby ran it in for Jericho’s second touchdown and the point after was good to make the score 14-0. On the ensuing kickoff, sophomore kicker Jake Zorfas drilled a line drive right past all the Herrick’s players for his first touch back. The Jayhawk defense continued their attack as they held Herricks from converting a fourth down conversion and took over at the Highlanders 42-yard line. With the new offensive formation successful, Jordan Brett scored one of his 3 touchdowns when he charged into the end zone. Jordan also ran for more than 130 yards and made multiple tackles.
The unrelenting defense by the Jayhawks continually put pressure on the Herricks QB, and Niko Alvarez came up with one of his two interceptions for the day. When Herricks took over on the next set of downs Noah White & Jason White sacked the quarterback consecutive times. Noah White also came up with a big fumble recovery as his defense led by Maxx Marcus, Sameep Rhawan, Matt Klang, and Josh Harris put pressure on the quarterback which resulted in Jericho tallying up more than 6 sacks for the day.
Come out and support your Jericho Jayhawks in their last home game of the season Saturday October 22, 2011 as they take on Elmont at 1:30 p.m. at Jericho High School.
