The Jericho Blues took first place in the NL division of the Jericho Little League’s third/fourth-grade playoffs with a decisive 9-2 victory over the # 3 seed, the Jericho Orange. The game was played at Jericho High School in front of a vocal and supportive crowd.
The first place finish was truly a team effort. In addition to the regular season schedule against other Jericho teams, the Jericho Blues won games against Syosset and Westbury. They played as a team, won as a team, and every child played a role.
The Jericho Blues opened the playoffs with a thrilling 3-2 extra inning victory over the Jericho Blacks. As they advanced in the playoffs, and the competition intensified, they responded by playing even harder culminating with the victory in the championship game. Jason Marshall and Todd Perlman were aces on the mound only allowing a total of four runs throughout the playoffs. Defense wins championships, and the boys exhibited textbook fundamentals throughout their championship run. The defense was led by Sam Josephson, Spencer Levy, Tyler Berger, Larry Bialek and Andrew Bialek. The offense was led by Evan Lapidus, Jeff Miller, Mike Maola and included tape measure homeruns by Justin Snyder and Jake Gerschwer. Blake Shaevitz was on the injured reserve for the playoffs. The Blues coaching staff included: Steve Miller, Roy Lapidus, Brandt Josephson, and Andrew Marshall.
It was a great tournament and a fun-filled season for the Jericho Blues and their supporters. The Blues will receive their championship trophies by a soon to be announced active major league player during the Jericho Athletic Association’s Little League Dinner to be held in November.
