On Sunday, October 4, in the sun and heat, our teams once again came out and played outstanding football. Each team gave a thrilling performance and the fans couldn’t get enough. Here’s what happened:
It was a rainy day, but the Braves didn’t let that dampen their spirits. We had some serious competition again this week, but we played well across the board. The 6-year-old team will be playing on Wednesday this week, and will be reported on next week. Here’s how everyone else did:
All tryouts will take place at the Seaman Elementary School and both tryout days for each grade are mandatory. There is a $10 tryout fee that will be collected at the first tryout (please arrive 15 minutes early to register and fill out necessary form). Tryouts are a drop-off, so please just send your child with a drink and be there five minutes before it ends to pick them up.
It was the second week of the season for the Syosset Youth Football and Cheerleading League and all of our teams had a bye this week, due to the holidays, except the seniors. This was the seniors’ first home game this year and they did an amazing job.
The Syosset senior team scored a big 20 to 6 win over the Roosevelt Roughriders. Tight end Ian Greene caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Sean Cerrone. Cerrone also hooked up with Gregory Galligan for the Braves’ third touchdown. Galligan kicked in the extra point for the Braves’ additional two points.

The Syosset Youth Football and Cheerleading League had its season opening games this past weekend. Although they made a strong showing, they were up against some pretty tough competition.
In recognition of National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month, which aims to increase the community’s understanding of the grief associated with the loss of an unborn or newborn child, Winthrop-University Hospital’s Perinatal Bereavement Team will host the Sixth Annual Walk to Remember on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 9 a.m. at Field 5 of Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.
Notwithstanding some very precarious weather forecasts for the weekend of August 29th and 30th, Hurricane Danny turned out not to have the impact that everyone feared, and more than 1500 athletes, ranging in age from 8 to 80, participated in the 22nd annual Runner’s Edge-Town of Oyster Bay Triathlon, Tri-Relay and Junior Triathlon, and there were no end of smiling faces at the finish line.
The top finisher in Sunday’s “main event” was 20-year-old Tom Eickelberg of Leonia, New Jersey, who stormed out of the swim leg tied for first with Michael DiDonato of Massapequa, and drew away in the bike and run legs to cross the finish line at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in 1:00:34, fifteen seconds in front of a hard charging Michael Kokoszka, who ran the fastest run leg in 17:12.
With the No. 1 draft pick and talk of a new arena on the horizon, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding the New York Islanders and the upcoming hockey season. And thanks to the Islanders’ commitment to the community and nonprofits like the American Red Cross, fans can get great discounts on tickets while contributing to a worthy cause.
Throughout the 2009-10 season, the American Red Cross in Nassau County will be selling ticket vouchers for $30 each. The vouchers can then be redeemed for tickets (valued at $60) to the weekday game of choice (with the exception of games against the NY Rangers and the home opener).
