Hall-of-Fame Inductee Goose Gossage Flies Into Crest Hollow Country Club

Syosset Baseball Association culminated their 55th season of youth baseball in the community with its annual awards dinner on Nov. 1 at Crest Hollow Country Club. Attended by more than 400 players and family members, this annual event marks the end of another exciting baseball season, with trophies awarded in the 9-year-old A-Division through the Major League Division, plus the acknowledgement of travel players throughout the summer and fall.

Syosset Girls Tennis Team Wins LI Championship

The Syosset Girls Varsity Tennis Team defeated Half Hollow Hills West at Smithtown East High School by a score of 6-1 to clinch their second consecutive Long Island Championship. The varsity team defeated Half Hollow Hills West by the same score, 6-1, in 2009 for the Long Island Championship. The Syosset team also defeated Garden City High School, 5-2 to win the Nassau County Team Championship.

Syosset Braves Finish Football Season With a Win

This past weekend, the 5- and 6-year-old Braves completed their successful season with two games. On Saturday, Nov. 13, Syosset traveled to Bellmore where the “Battle of the Braves” would end in a tie, with two touchdowns each.

Six-Year-Old Braves Football Team Continues Reign of Success

This past Sunday, the 5/6 Braves continued their winning ways with a three-touchdown-to-two-touchdown victory over the Floral Park Titans. The close score was not indicative of the game, as the Braves dominated on both sides of the field.

Jericho Jayhawks Achieve 8-0 Season

The sun was shining, the wind was blowing and the answer to the question “Can the Jericho JV football team go undefeated?” was only 48 minutes away. These boys put their hearts and souls into their practices, working with their coaches, and their will to learn. This Saturday’s football game against the Valley Stream Central Eagles started and finished like all the rest.

Jericho High School Hockey Team Is Back in Business

After a two-year absence, Jericho High School Hockey has been re-established this season. Thanks to the success of the middle school team’s inaugural season, and the team from two years ago that suffered through a winless season, many of those kids have joined again to enjoy a start with a 3-1-1 record, including a tie versus last year’s defending champions Massapequa. Jericho is fortunate to be led by Coach Mike Bracco, who played college hockey for Dartmouth, coaches the Long Island Gulls Championship Team, and successfully coached the middle school team to the semi-finals last season.

Syosset HS Varsity Football Team Wins Homecoming Game

On Saturday, Oct. 16, Syosset High School celebrated Homecoming with the Syosset Braves football team hosting Massapequa, while the student government had the carnival up and running on the next field. It was a must-win situation for the Braves, who have their eyes on a spot in the playoffs.

7-0 With One More Game to Go for Jericho JV Football

The stage was set for game number seven. The Jericho JV football team was hosting the Roslyn Bulldogs. Could their winning streak continue?

Jericho won the toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff. The Bulldogs decided to try an onside kick and Joe Velotti smothered the ball where Jericho took command and started right where they left off last week, moving the ball.

Jericho Avalanche Wins Columbus Day Tournament

At Mitchel Field in Uniondale on Oct. 9 and 10, the Jericho Avalanche girls U-12 travel soccer team took the annual Columbus Day tournament by surprise. Placed in a group two divisions ahead of their regular season town pairings, Jericho took on soccer powerhouses such as Manhassett, New Hyde Park, Wantagh and Massapequa.

In Game One against New Hyde Park, Jericho fell behind 1-0 but fought back with a goal by Brittney Fuchs on beautiful passes from Sabrina Milana and Armina Souroush. In the second half, Jericho held strong, stopping multiple onslaughts with the tremendous defensive play of Erica Setton, Lauren Orr and Emily Wexler. With just 7 minutes left in the game and the score tied, Jessica Busam, on long passes from Vicki Peykar and then Amanda Solomon, broke down the field, splitting the defenders to score the game-winning goal.
