Friday, 10 December 2010 00:00

The venue for the Great Prostate Cancer 5 Kilometer Run on Nov. 14 is a bit different than the standard road race, with 3.1 miles entirely on the pathways of the Town of Oyster Bay’s Golf Course in Woodbury. The not-so-gentle (but short) hills provided an interesting challenge that the 382 finishers – a 30 percent increase over 2009 – seemed to thoroughly enjoy once again.

Syosset 10-Year-Old Football Team Crowned Super Bowl Champs

Friday, 03 December 2010 00:00

The 10-year-old Syosset Braves Football Team are Super Bowl champs this year. In a rematch of last year’s title game, Syosset proved to be the better team this time around in a thrilling, hard-hitting affair that ended 6-0 in favor of the Braves over the Baldwin Bombers. It was a fitting ending to great season that saw the boys play great football as they grew more competitive from week to week.
The offense, led by quarterback Tyler Parlo, dominated the Baldwin defense. They kept the Bomber offense on the sidelines for all but one possession in the entire second half, proving the old adage that the best defense is a good offense. Parlo was on top of his game as he made perfect pitch after perfect pitch to his running backs, keeping the Baldwin defenders at bay while not turning the ball over. His play allowed the coaches to open up the playbook and had the defense playing on its heels when it mattered most.
