Letter: Thanks for Making Soldier Drive a Success

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to everyone who helped make this year’s soldier collection drive a great success. While I am saddened by the fact that such a drive is necessary, I believe it is critical that we do our part to boost the morale of our soldiers. This program serves as an important reminder that the daily sacrifices made by our uniformed service personnel are not taken for granted.

I want to personally thank all employees of the Town of Oyster Bay, who, with the assistance of the CSEA, collected hundreds of needed supplies to be sent to the men and women serving overseas. We had collection boxes set up at various Town facilities and employees provided great assistance for this cause.

I would also like to thank all of the residents of the Town of Oyster Bay who came through with many donations. Some even returned more than once to provide much needed items. Residents of all ages participated, including Scouting troops, and some who were unable to drive to drop off their donations.

While I am saddened that it was necessary to participate in this drive for the third year, I am proud that so many residents came forward to show their support for our troops. Last year, we collected over 1,800 pounds of supplies, and I believe we will surpass that goal this year once all items are tallied. Thank you all for your generosity and good wishes for our men and women serving overseas.
