Specialty grocer The Fresh Market will be the latest tenant to join the Woodbury Common boutique shopping center this October.
Adding to the recent trend of gourmet supermarkets increasing their presence on Long Island, The Fresh Market’s concept will be less like a box store, and more like an Uncle Giuseppe’s or Fairway, reminiscent of European markets, according to President and CEO Craig Carlock.
“Our customers enjoy shopping in an environment that appeals to all the senses,” says Carlock. “The smell of freshly brewed coffee and bread right out of the oven, the sound of classical music, soft lighting with antique décor in an intimate setting, and the ability to select and taste fresh, high-quality products all work together to create surroundings where customers are encouraged to experience the food.”
The new store, the chain’s first on Long Island, will house more than 25,000 square feet of gourmet foods. The bakery alone will produce 30 freshly baked breads and 14 different pie varieties daily.
The store will also sell more than 200 imported and domestic cheeses and more than 400 items in its produce section, including extensive organic options.
A full-service meat counter will offer fresh cuts and ground beef, plus a wide selection of ready-to-serve meals. Fresh seafood will be delivered to the store several times per week.
Carlock says the company has made a significant investment in the market and the new store is bringing approximately 90 new jobs to the area, most of which are being filled locally. The Fresh Market will also feature a growing number of local and regional products from area growers and producers.
As part of the store’s community outreach plans, The Fresh Market is also partnering with the Island Harvest Food Bank and will provide regular food donations to the local charity.
“We are excited to open our new store in Woodbury and to expand our reach in New York,” says Carlock. “We look forward to introducing The Fresh Market’s concept of quality perishables, excellent customer service and a unique atmosphere to an expanded customer base, and we look forward to offering neighboring communities a rewarding new food shopping experience.”
Founded in 1982, The Fresh Market currently operates 143 stores in 26 states, primarily located in the Southeast, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and West Coast. The Woodbury market will be the company’s third location in New York State.
Doors will open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, and grand opening activities will include chef demonstrations, food samplings, and drawings for The Fresh Market gift cards. A sample-sized bag of the company’s gourmet coffee and a reusable shopping bag will be free to the first 1,000 customers.
