Jericho Jewish Center Annual Concert

Israeli superstar David Broza in concert with Cantor Barry Black David Broza has been considered one of the most dynamic and vibrant performers in the singer/songwriter world. His charismatic performances have brought to worldwide audiences, a fusion of the three different countries in which he was raised: Israel, Spain, and England, filling concert halls with his famous guitar playing, ranging from flamenco flavored rhythmic and percussion techniques, to whirlwind finger picking, to a signature rock and roll sound. A special performance of Israeli songs will be performed by JJC’s cantor, Barry Black. As a lyric tenor, he has performed much of the standard operatic repertoire including the works of Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni and Bizet. He has also performed in Yiddish Theatre productions. Cantor Black was featured in the role of a cantor in Liberty Heights, a Barry Levinson film, released December, 1999. Prior to joining the Jericho Jewish Center, Cantor Black served as cantor at several prominent synagogues in Florida and New York. Sponsorship levels are available, which will include post-concert meet-and-greet with the performers and scrumptious desserts. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to food banks on Long Island and Israel. Jericho Jewish Center, 430 N. Broadway, Jericho. $54, $18 for students, 7 p.m.; Under 12 free. For information/reservations, please call 516-938-2540.

Underhill Preserve Trail Clearing

If you are waddling about after enjoying too much pumpkin pie, burn off some calories by joining Huntington Oyster Bay Audubon Society as we clear the trails at Underhill Preserve in Jericho in time for the Christmas Bird Count in December (this is the most productive count area and the trails have grown in terribly). Tools, gloves and snacks (no Thanksgiving leftovers…promise!) will be provided for the volunteers. This is a great chance to explore this preserve which is closed to the public. Work off your holiday feast while doing some good for the environment. Directions: Due to the sensitive location, the group will meet and then carpool to the area. Please meet in front of the Starbucks in the Whole Foods shopping center in Jericho on Route 107. Registration is an absolute must:  516-695-0783. 10 a.m.
