All smiles as they announce plans for the 31st annual Nationwide Insurance Run for ASPIRE are (L to R) Jeff Cooper of Nationwide, ASPIRE Race Director Bob Windorf, and Tony Wiszowaty of Nationwide.

Runners from Plainview-Old Bethpage, Syosset, Woodbury and Jericho and the rest of Long Island are cordially invited to participate in the 32nd annual edition of the Nationwide Insurance 10 Kilometer Run for ASPIRE, Long Island's oldest continuously held 10 Kilometer Run. The Run will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009.

The 2009 Run will be staged over the same 6.2 mile course through the roads of Plainview, Old Bethpage and Bethpage that has been used in the past, once again starting and finishing at the H.B. Mattlin Middle School on Washington Avenue in Plainview. The event will once again be directed by Bob Windorf of the Greater Long Island Running Club.

The Race Committee is extremely grateful for the continued support of Nationwide Insurance, with Nationwide's Anthony Wiszowaty stepping forth once again to help honor the memory of Stan Kramberg, and the entire net proceeds of the event being turned over to the ASPIRE Program for the rehabilitation of young amputees, and ASPIRE's Stanley Kramberg Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Thanks also for continued support of this signature Long Island running event to Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto and all our good friends from the Town's Department of Parks, to presenting sponsors The Runner's Edge, and new sponsor Fairway (Like No Other Market). Mizuno will be back once again as our official shoe company sponsor, as our ASPIRE 10K family continues to make this a first class event.

The event will continue to provide awards in age groups through 85 plus. Top Male and Female Overall and top Male and Female Masters take home a pair of Mizuno running shoes. Every entrant in the 10K gets one of the classic long sleeve Run for ASPIRE shirts. Other great ASPIRE Run features include free massage, a quarter mile fun run for the youngsters before the main event, and lots of raffles to cap the post-Run Awards Ceremony.

While the Nationwide Insurance 10K Run for ASPIRE is very much geared towards the average recreational runner, we will once again also offer a $500 prize if the first male runner to cross the finish line breaks the course record of 30:27 set by Pat Peterson in 1988, and a $500 prize if the first female runner to cross the finish line breaks the women's course record of 34:55 set by Angela Hearn in 1989.
