John Hanc

Noted author John Hanc will be the featured speaker at the Tuesday evening, Feb. 17 Open Meeting of the Greater Long Island Running Club. John will be discussing his recently published book The Coolest Race on Earth: Mud, Madmen, Glaciers and Crannies at the Antarctica Marathon.

The meeting will be held in the Auditorium of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library, 999 Old Country Rd. in Plainview, starting promptly at 8 p.m.

In February 2005, at age 50, Hanc completed his 20th marathon in Antarctica, braving severe conditions. This book is an account of his 7,000-mile journey.

John Hanc, a member of the Greater Long Island Running Club, is a contributing editor to Runner's World magazine and a contributing writer to Newsday. His previous books include The Essential Runner, The Essential Marathoner, Running for Dummies (co-authored with the late Florence Griffith -Joyner), and Racing for Recovery: From Addict to Ironman (co-authored with Tod Crandell). John teaches writing and communications at New York Institute of Technology. He completed his 23rd career marathon in November of 2007.
