SYAC Travel Softball teams wrapped up their victorious fall 2008 season with a few more wins this past weekend.
The Syosset Cyclones, a new U8 squad, blasted a bunch of big hits late in the game to roll over North Bellmore/North Merrick with a 5-3 win at Sawmill Field in North Bellmore. Emily Quinn won the game's MVP award in what was a terrific team effort in their final game this fall.
The Syosset Storm traded wins with the Long Island Rockets in Dix Hills, in a battle for second place in the U10 Division of NJBL. The Storm won the first game 7-4 and lost the second 7-4. The Storm got things going late in the first game with a blast off the bat of Jessica Kuse. That was followed by a pair of homers from Rebecca Margolin and Jessica Rapfogel. The Storm got great pitching from Laura Weintraub, Kathleen Kelly and Lindsey Casale. They finished their season 8-3-1 for third-place among 11 teams in the U10 division.
The Syosset Hurricanes, who finished their season a week ago with a record of 8-4, took fourth place in the same U10 division.
The Syosset Thunder captured second place among nine teams in the U12 American division of NJBL with a record of 9-3.
The Syosset Xtreme finished their season at 7-5, giving them a tie for third place among seven teams in NJBL's U14 National division.
SYAC thanks the coaches who contributed their time and effort this season, as well as the loyal families who came out in all weather to support teams. SYAC Travel will resume play in the spring. Also, sign-up for SYAC spring intramurals will be held in January; dates will be announced soon.
