The Pony Black football team ended the year as the 2008 NFC Western Division Champions with an overall record of 8 wins and 1 loss. The season was capped with a decisive win over the Farmingdale Titans 35-18. Robert Speranza finished off a great season with a TD - adding to his team leading total of 18 touchdowns - which must be attributed to the outstanding offensive blocking efforts by linemen David Reiter, Justin Napolitano, Derek Napolitano, Jonathan Klobus, Nick Balos, Matthew McGahan, Joseph Greenstein, Adam Pollack, Ben Pollack, Richie Prestegaard, and Anthony Costa.
Against Farmingdale, running backs Travis Hammer, Vincent Speranza, Mathew Costa, Michael Calisto, Perry Lehrhoff, Ryan Klobus, Anthony Carchietta, Jonathan Klobus and Ryan Condon had an outstanding game moving the ball up and down the field. Matthew McGahan, Justin Napolitano and Joseph Greenstein became first time touchdown scorers this season, and Anthony Costa added an extra point run, to increase the Pony Black team's incredible accomplishment of having fourteen different teammates contribute to scoring throughout the 2008 season. That is truly a tremendous team effort that the coaching staff is extremely proud of during this hard fought season.
Defensively, Matthew Kahl, Cody Miller, Ryan Condon, Minjae Park, Daniel Noh and the rest of the Pony Black team stood tall and stalled the Farmingdale pass and rush game all night long. In addition, Perry Lehrhoff added another interception to his collection and took it to the house for a defensive touchdown. The Pony Black team is gearing up this week to take on the powerful Glen Cove program in the first round of the playoffs Sunday at 12 noon at Syosset Woodbury Park. Good Luck to all Syosset teams this upcoming weekend, and let's bring home some victories.
