The SW Yankees continued their hot summer beating the North Syosset Indians 7-1 and the Peconic Lions 4-3.

It is always fun when the Yankees play their good friends the Indians and this game was no exception. Jonathan Doyle in his second start off the disabled list was nearly unhittable striking out 12 and holding the Indians to just one run in a complete game effort. The score is a little misleading because this was a 2-1 game until the Yankee offense scored five runs in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Matt Feltman scored the Yankees first run in the third. Zack Schwartz scored the second run in the fifth. In the sixth, Steven Taurisani walked and with two outs, the Yankees bats came alive. Doyle, Dom Caputo and Schwartz followed with base hits. Then Ari Chaskes hit his second double of the game to clear the bases. Rookie Steven Sisun had his first hit of the season to knock in the final run of the five run rally.

The next date on the schedule saw the Yankees defeat the Peconic Lions in another well played game 4-3.

With starting catcher Zack Schwartz and back up catcher Dom Caputo both playing injured and unable to squat (they did far more than squat they just could not squat... there is a difference) the Yankees turned to rookie catcher Nick Gulotta to make his first start behind the plate and he delivered. Not only did he play flawless defense behind the plate including throwing out the first runner attempting to steal second and cutting off a potential Lions' rally in the process, he also had his first two hits and first two RBIs as a Yankee.

Starting pitcher Jason Beck pitched another gem holding the Lions to just two hits through 5 and 1/3 innings. Third baseman Chaskes started a 5-5-3 double play (that is he stepped on third then threw to first for those who are keeping track) to end the third inning and Ian Berg added outstanding defense at short. Steven Sisun and Ari Chaskes each added two hits to Gulotta's two, and Steven Taurisani added a RBI single to give Beck all the runs he needed. Schwartz came in with one out in the sixth to hold the lead and get the save.

The Yankees have had players from Jericho, Oyster Bay, Syosset, Woodbury and New Jersey; there are no residence requirements.

To be eligible the player must have been born after April 30, 1996, must play competitive baseball, and must have families who recognize the commitment but understand the priorities.

Tryouts are held at team mini practices in an attempt to evaluate the kids in a non pressurized setting. The purposes of these practices are to spend a little more time focused on the individual needs, and to give the kids some individual attention. Baseball skill and attitude are equally important to us and are given equal weight in the decision making process.

The Yankees are always interested in meeting new players. Anyone interested in being considered should email info@swyankeesbaseball.com.
