It is bad enough that the taxes and proposed school taxes are high. It is arrogant on the part of Syosset School Board to not release what the average home's increase will be. Seventy-five percent of all Nassau districts published this information (42 out of 56). Syosset doesn't do this and never has. To say that taxes for the district will rise 5.98 percent is quite different than that of the average homeowners increase.
Different classifications of properties get different increases but what is the homeowner's increase? The board never knows, because the state and county haven't given them the breakdown. Forty-two out of 56 districts in Nassau got the breakdown. Ask and you shall receive.
Since I have lived in an average home for the past 35 years it would seem to me that I could figure out this tax increase, but no I can't. For the past 15 years my increase has never matched what the board said the average increase would be + 5-10 percent. Something is wrong with this attitude of self-confidence. Some day this is going to come back and bite them.
